Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Does the Nighthawk bench alone provide decline positions or leg restraint?
No. REP lists the bench's back positions from 0° through 85° and does not include a leg restraint. Its separately sold Leg Roller Attachment 2.0 is listed as compatible and adds decline functionality, but that changes the package and must be checked separately; the attachment must be removed before vertical storage.
Explore this need in the finder →Can I store the Nighthawk upright after a workout?
REP describes an integrated upright-storage post and shows the bench stored vertically. The stated 9.2-square-foot footprint describes the bench on the floor, not the clearance around its upright storage location. REP says its Leg Roller Attachment 2.0 must be removed before vertical storage.
Explore this need in the finder →How does it compare with REP's AB-3100 for a small room?
Both models have a maker-stated 700-lb rating and flat-to-incline positions, but the Nighthawk is listed at 88 lb, 51 by 25.9 inches and 9.2 square feet; the AB-3100 is 70 lb, 50.5 by 23 inches and 7.9 square feet. The Nighthawk adds vertical storage and has a uniform 11.8-inch back pad, while the AB-3100's back pad tapers. Those published figures do not include working clearance.
Explore this need in the finder →Short version: The Nighthawk is a 700-lb-rated flat-to-incline bench for someone who values a closed adjustment ladder, a built-in upright-storage post, wheels and a consistent 11.8-inch back pad. It is not a decline bench as supplied, and “upright storage” is conditional: REP says the separate Leg Roller Attachment 2.0 must be removed first. This is a document-based assessment of REP’s current Nighthawk listing, not a hands-on test.
What the adjustment range does—and does not—cover
REP lists seven back-pad positions: 0°, 15°, 30°, 45°, 60°, 75° and 85°. The seat has four positions: -15°, 0°, 10° and 20°. The negative seat setting is not a negative back-pad angle; the back list starts at flat and proceeds upward. For the bench alone, that is a flat-and-incline arrangement, not the flat/incline/decline range some buyers mean when they say “adjustable.”
The base bench has no included leg restraint. REP lists its Leg Roller Attachment 2.0 as a compatible separate accessory, and that attachment page says it adds decline movements and can anchor Nordic curls. A buyer who wants those movements should treat the bench and roller as a two-item setup, verify the exact attachment version and package, and not assume the roller is in the Nighthawk box. The Nighthawk page also mentions future attachment development, so current product-page language is worth rechecking rather than treating every pictured or planned add-on as standard equipment.
Closed ladder, pad and frame details
The closed ladder is a meaningful design detail rather than an extra angle: REP says its closed form keeps the back post from lifting out while adjustment is made and helps prevent the back pad swinging when the bench is moved or stored vertically. The manufacturer describes a wider rear foot and full-contact front foot, molded plastic foot liners, a knurled front handle and transport wheels. These are design claims, not a measured comparison of stability or rolling effort.
REP specifies a 36-inch-long, 11.8-inch-wide back pad, a 13-inch seat pad and a 1.57-inch gap. The surface is described as molded polyurethane foam wrapped in CleanGrip vinyl; the frame is listed as 7- and 14-gauge steel. Those dimensions let a shopper compare pad shape and joint gap on paper, but they do not establish how the pad will feel for a particular body or exercise. REP says the Nighthawk is not compatible with its current wide pad, while a Nighthawk-specific wider back pad was described as forthcoming on the product page checked for this assessment. Do not order a different REP pad based on brand name alone.
Room planning and the upright-storage caveat
The published envelope is 51 inches long, 25.9 inches wide and 16.7 inches high when flat; REP lists 9.2 square feet of floor footprint and an 88-pound bench weight. The 16.7-inch height is presented by REP as meeting IPF competition height. The Nighthawk therefore offers a lower listed flat height than some benches, but its floor footprint is larger than the 7.9 square feet REP lists for the lighter 70-pound AB-3100. Neither footprint includes a rack, bar path, plate access, walking route or space to stand the bench upright.
The upright-storage post and wheels solve different problems. Wheels and the knurled handle are for moving the bench along the floor; the post supports vertical storage. REP says vertical storage is supported, but explicitly says the Leg Roller Attachment 2.0 has to be removed before the bench is stored that way. If the attachment is part of your routine, allow for taking it off and finding a separate place for it rather than counting the stored bench alone as the entire storage plan. Confirm the room’s ceiling height, wall clearance and lifting route with the exact assembled unit.
How it sits among REP’s adjustable benches
The Nighthawk uses SKU family AB-4102, while REP’s own product copy says it builds on the AB-4100 and adds features. REP identifies a redesigned molded pad, revised front and rear feet and molded-plastic improvements; the bench keeps a closed ladder and the same seven back angles listed for the AB-4100 in REP’s older comparison material. The lineage is useful, but it is not proof that the names or product codes are interchangeable. This assessment is tied to the current Nighthawk/AB-4102 listing, not to a used AB-4100.
Compared with the AB-3100, the Nighthawk trades a larger stated footprint and 18 additional pounds for an upright-storage post, closed ladder, uniform-width back pad and a seat position at -15°. Both listings state a 700-lb capacity and flat-to-incline back positions. Compared with REP’s AB-3000 2.0, the Nighthawk is lighter and smaller by the listed envelope but gives up the bench-alone decline position, included roller assembly and 1,000-lb published rating. Choose by the feature you actually require, not by a single capacity or “premium” label.
Checks before choosing this model
- Confirm the listing says REP Nighthawk and check the finish-specific AB-4102 SKU; the six current variants are color choices, not six bench designs.
- Decide whether flat and incline are enough. The bench by itself does not supply decline positions or a restraint.
- If decline work matters, verify that the package includes the separate Leg Roller Attachment 2.0 and plan to remove it before vertical storage.
- Measure the 51-by-25.9-inch floor envelope plus the rack, walking and upright-storage clearances you need.
- Treat 700 lb as REP’s stated rating, not an independent load test or a universal calculation of user-plus-weights capacity; check the current instructions for how the maker defines it.
The Nighthawk makes the most sense when the storage post, closed ladder and AB-4102 pad/frame revisions are useful enough to justify the larger footprint over the AB-3100. If decline is essential, verify the separate accessory and total setup before buying; if a flat-to-incline-only bench is enough, compare room dimensions and handling requirements against the simpler AB-3100 rather than assuming the newest design is automatically the better fit.
