Your needs, this model
Does it fit your priorities?
Is the AB-4100 the same as the Nighthawk AB-4102?
No. REP's current Nighthawk page identifies its model as AB-4102 and describes updates from the AB-4100. REP keeps a separate AB-4100 assembly manual and old model image; use those exact identifiers instead of treating the products as one SKU family.
Explore this need in the finder →What room limit does the AB-4100 meet on REP's published footprint?
REP lists 7.2 square feet, 51.3 inches long and 20.3 inches wide. Those dimensions describe the equipment footprint, not movement clearance, bar path, access around a rack or the space needed to tip it upright.
Explore this need in the finder →Does it store vertically without a wall hanger?
REP lists a built-in upright storage post with a rubber lining on the AB-4100. That is different from a wall-mounted hanger sold for flat benches; confirm the post, floor contact and exact manual on any used offer before attempting storage.
Explore this need in the finder →Is the AB-4100's stated rating 700 lb or 1,000 lb?
REP lists the AB-4100 at 700 lb, while its newer Nighthawk/AB-4102 is also listed at 700 lb. The matching weight number does not make their dimensions, pads, locks or storage package interchangeable; the figure is a manufacturer claim, not a test by this publication.
Explore this need in the finder →This is a manufacturer-source assessment of the earlier REP AB-4100 Adjustable Weight Bench. The AB-4100 has its own assembly manual and a separate place in REP’s historical bench material. It is not the current Nighthawk AB-4102. The shared “4100” family number can make those offers easy to conflate, so use the model label and manual to establish which bench is actually for sale.
A compact flat-to-incline range
REP lists seven back-pad angles—0, 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 85 degrees—and three seat angles of 0, 10 and 20 degrees. The closed ladder does not require a loose pop-pin according to the manufacturer’s description. The source calls out a 1.6-inch pad gap and CleanGrip pad material. The bench is flat/incline only in the documented arrangement: no decline angle or included leg restraint is established for the AB-4100.
REP gives this model an 85-lb assembled weight, a 51.3-inch length, 20.3-inch width and 17-inch flat height. Its stated footprint is 7.2 square feet. Those figures make it the most compact among the current library’s adjustable examples, but footprint is only the equipment envelope. It does not include space for getting on and off the bench, changing angles, moving dumbbells, positioning beside a rack or turning the bench upright. Keep those requirements on the room plan rather than treating 7.2 square feet as total clearance.
The maker lists a 700-lb capacity and a frame using 7- and 14-gauge steel. These values describe the manufacturer’s specification, not a test conducted for this review. The source does not define the rating protocol or how it treats the user’s body mass and external weight. A published load figure should not be converted into a safety guarantee.
Upright storage is a real feature, not a free floor plan
REP describes a built-in upright storage post with a rubber lining intended to protect the floor and add stability when stored. That differs from a flat-bench wall hanger, which is a separate accessory installed on a wall. The AB-4100’s post may reduce its resting footprint, but using it still requires room to tip an 85-lb bench, enough vertical clearance and a suitable floor contact point. “Stores upright” does not mean the bench folds, is light enough for every user to lift, or can be placed safely in any closet.
Transport wheels are not established in the sources used for this record, and the exact handle arrangement on a used offer should be confirmed from its own manual. Neither trait should be imported from the newer Nighthawk. REP’s Nighthawk product page identifies that model as AB-4102 and describes updates inspired by the earlier AB-4100; the current model’s product photo and options are not evidence that an AB-4100 has identical hardware.
What this model is not
The original AB-4100 is different from the AB-3100 even though both benches sit near the compact end of REP’s adjustable range. REP lists 700 lb, a 7.2-square-foot footprint and vertical storage for the AB-4100; the separate AB-3100 assessment documents its own 700-lb rating and 7.9-square-foot footprint but no upright-storage design. The current Nighthawk also uses a 700-lb rating, but REP identifies it with an AB-4102 model code, its own dimensions and an updated package. Similar ratings do not make the models interchangeable.
REP’s standard replacement-pad page includes an AB-4100 choice, but it cautions that the correct model selection matters. That is useful if replacing pads on an existing frame; it is not a complete old-bench SKU list or proof that a visually similar pad will fit. The exact finish/SKU set and a model-specific current product page remain unavailable from the routes checked for this cycle.
Use this assessment as an identification aid
The AB-4100 suits a comparison when an existing offer can be verified and the buyer values a documented flat/incline range, moderate listed footprint and integrated upright-storage post. The listing’s data are sufficient to plan around its dimensions and rating, but not to determine condition, pad comfort, current parts availability or long-term durability. No hands-on assembly, lifting, stability measurement or load test was performed.
Before use, follow the exact AB-4100 manual and check the closed ladder, pins/fasteners, pivot, feet, pads and storage post for damage or missing pieces. Ask REP how its 700-lb rating applies to the intended load. For a purchase, ensure the seller’s label says AB-4100, that the manual and included parts match, and that the entire movement and storage route fits the room. This review is deliberately not a Nighthawk review: the identity distinction is more important than a superficially similar photo.
